BILLY CONNOLLY: NEW LIMITED- EDITION RELEASE
Castle Fine Art is delighted to present the latest additions to Billy Connolly’s beloved Born On A Rainy Day collection, introducing three new artworks that celebrate the artist’s trademark humour, creativity and unique perspective on the world.

At the heart of the release is A Load of Old Bollocks – Variations, an ambitious limited-edition series that reinterprets one of Connolly’s most iconic artworks through 365 individual colourways. Each edition is hand-signed and uniquely numbered in Roman numerals, ensuring that every collector acquires a one-of-a-kind variation of the image.

The artwork perfectly embodies Connolly’s intuitive approach to making art. Beginning as a spontaneous arrangement of circles, lines and shapes with no predetermined destination, the composition evolved into a playful abstract work rich with possibility and interpretation. Across its many colour variations, viewers are invited to discover their own stories within the image while embracing the freedom, spontaneity and joy that underpin Connolly’s creative process.
Speaking about the work, Connolly offers his characteristic take on the title:
"This is a load of old bollocks. That's why it's called that. It gives you the opportunity to say it to its face – you're a load of old bollocks."
Whether seen as a surreal collection of marbles, a basket of colourful spheres or something entirely different, the artwork reflects Connolly’s enduring belief that art should spark curiosity, laughter and personal connection.
Alongside this landmark edition release, Castle Fine Art will also unveil two deeply personal self-portraits: Did You Read Do? and VegeMaybe. Originally created for an exhibition in Sydney, both works draw inspiration from Connolly’s affection for Australia, a country that has played an important role throughout his life and career.

Rarely portraying himself directly in his artwork, Connolly uses humour, memory and wordplay to transform personal experiences into imaginative visual narratives. Did You Read Do? takes its cue from the iconic didgeridoo, featuring a trio of recognisable ‘Billys’ performing Australian music while celebrating the artist’s lifelong love of folk traditions and cultural storytelling.
Meanwhile, VegeMaybe offers a playful tribute to the famous Australian spread that first captured Connolly’s imagination during his travels. Depicting the artist alongside an oversized jar of Vegemite, the artwork combines humour with subtle reflections on creativity, incorporating references to the drawing and painting tools that have become central to his artistic practice since he first turned to visual art nearly twenty years ago.
