JOHNNY DEPP UNVEILS FIRST MAJOR UK ART EXHIBITION IN LONDON

Halcyon Gallery welcomes Johnny Depp with his first major UK exhibition of original artworks, at its New Bond Street gallery in London. Bringing together paintings, sculptures, drawings and collages created over several decades, the exhibition offers an intimate exploration of Depp's artistic imagination and the creative influences that have shaped his life.

Known internationally for his work in film and music, Depp has maintained a lifelong passion for visual art, developing a distinctive artistic practice that explores identity, memory, human emotion and the relationship between reality and fantasy.

The exhibition marks a significant moment in Depp's artistic career, coinciding with Halcyon's announcement that it will represent the artist. Spanning decades of creative output, the collection reveals a deeply personal body of work shaped by remembered faces, song lyrics, cultural references and imagined characters.

Drawing was Depp's first creative passion, long before his career in Hollywood. Describing his early relationship with art, he has spoken of his need to "escape into a blank piece of paper", a sentiment that continues to influence his approach to painting and drawing today.

Throughout his work, Depp explores the complexities of the human condition, often returning to themes of individuality, vulnerability and the outsider. Much like the unconventional characters associated with his film career, his paintings feature enigmatic figures that exist somewhere between humour and melancholy, imagination and reality.

The exhibition moves between expressive floral compositions, psychological portraits and fantastical characters, creating a visual narrative that reflects Depp's fascination with storytelling. His works combine personal experiences with fictional imagery, exploring the ways in which memory, identity and imagination can overlap.

Portraiture plays an important role in Depp's artistic practice, with depictions of friends, heroes and muses revealing the cultural and personal influences that have shaped his creative world. Through expressive techniques and distinctive compositions, familiar faces are transformed into deeply personal interpretations of the people who have inspired him.

Elsewhere, self-portraits and invented characters offer a more introspective exploration of identity. Among the recurring motifs is the Bunnyman, a distinctive figure inspired by Depp's son, Jack, which appears throughout his work as an alter ego and symbolic representation of the human psyche.

The exhibition also reflects Depp's fascination with the relationship between public perception and private identity. Masks, imagined personalities and theatrical imagery become ways of exploring the different roles individuals inhabit, while revealing a more vulnerable and reflective side of the artist.

Paul Green, President and Founder of Halcyon, said: "Johnny Depp is a defining cultural icon with a unique artistic vision. Known for his unparalleled ability to connect with audiences through the authenticity of his characters, an encounter with Depp, the artist, is equally compelling. Depp has drawn and painted his whole life and we're very proud at Halcyon to be hosting his first major exhibition in the UK."

While Depp's performances have captivated audiences around the world for decades, this exhibition offers something altogether different: an opportunity to encounter the artist behind the familiar face and discover a creative practice that has developed away from the cameras.

The London exhibition follows another significant moment in Depp's artistic career, which was his first solo museum exhibition in China. Opening at the Modern Art Museum (MAM) Shanghai in August 2026 and Titled Johnny Depp: A Bunch of Stuff Presents Figures of the Fringe, the immersive exhibition brought together decades of his creative work, offering audiences a rare glimpse into his world beyond Hollywood.

Curated by Shai Baitel, Artistic Director of MAM Shanghai, the exhibition explored Depp's fascination with outsiders, unconventional characters and the complexities of human identity. Featuring paintings, drawings, personal manuscripts, poetry and immersive installations, the presentation takes visitors through five distinct themes, including Heroes & Idols, Lovers & Muses and Masks & Doubles, revealing the personal experiences and creative influences that have shaped his artistic journey.

The London exhibition offers a rare opportunity to discover the breadth of Depp's visual art, bringing together works that reflect a creative journey developed largely away from the public eye. From intimate drawings to larger-scale paintings and sculptural pieces, the collection provides an insight into an artist whose fascination with human nature and storytelling has remained constant throughout his career.

Open to the public from 13 October 2026, the exhibition at Halcyon Gallery, 148 New Bond Street, London, is completely free to visit.

Art enthusiasts and fans alike can experience Depp's original artworks up close, exploring the personal stories, inspirations and imaginative world behind one of the most recognisable figures in contemporary culture.
