FIRST LOOK AT ANNE-MARIE DUFF IN SOME WOMAN AT THE NATIONAL THEATRE
The National Theatre has unveiled the first production images of Anne-Marie Duff in Some Woman, a powerful new play exploring identity, defiance and the courage to find your voice.
Written by acclaimed playwright Helen Edmundson (Small Island) and directed by Blanche McIntyre (Tartuffe), the world premiere sees Duff, best known for her performances in Bad Sisters and Shameless, take centre stage in the Dorfman Theatre, where the production runs until 21 November 2026.
Duff plays Julie Robson, an ordinary woman accustomed to being overlooked. Whether at work, at home or somewhere in between, Julie has spent much of her life going unnoticed. But when an unexpected encounter on a station platform takes a dramatic turn, she suddenly finds herself at the centre of attention. What follows is a profound shift as Julie begins to question the world around her and discovers the strength to stand up for herself.
Exploring the pressures and expectations placed upon women, Some Woman asks what happens when someone who has spent a lifetime being unheard finally refuses to remain silent.
Joining Duff on stage is an impressive ensemble cast including Grace Doherty, Ioanna Kimbook, Tobi King-Bakare, Tom McCall, Daniel Millar, Hannah Onslow, Geoffrey Streatfeild and Stephen Wight.
The production brings together a distinguished creative team, with set and costume design by Robert Jones, lighting by Natasha Chivers, movement direction by Lucie Pankhurst and sound design by Ben and Max Ringham, alongside an original score by Therese Strasser.
Newly released production photography by Ellie Kurttz offers a first glimpse of the cast in this compelling new work, which examines the complexities of everyday life and the extraordinary consequences of challenging the status quo.
Some Woman is playing at the National Theatre's Dorfman Theatre in London until 21 November 2026.
